Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for doubts to be raised about his future following another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the team's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from the top,” the coach commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He added, “I accept my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I feel the belief. However I've not talked to them after this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
The manager lamented known shortcomings from his team in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase of this nature with performances like these.”
He finished, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, prove again the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
