People have gathered around the country to commemorate the second anniversary since the Hamas-led assault on that fateful day in October 2023, as negotiations continued in the neighboring country over a resolution to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The attack saw in excess of 1,200 people killed and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as hostages. It was the uniquely most fatal day for Jewish people since the World War II.

Israel responded by initiating a defensive operation in Gaza which has killed over 67,000 people, according to the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its numbers are regarded as accurate by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"The aggressive enemies have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," the leader remarked on that day.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the removal of the Hamas government and the guarantee that Gaza will never again present a threat to Israel".

Commemorative Events Across Israel

The national leadership rescheduled state remembrance events until October 16th - after the conclusion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still took place throughout the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the relatives of Israelis killed in the Hamas incident was held in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the affected families, it was televised throughout Israeli broadcast stations.

A period earlier, a minute's silence was observed throughout the country.

Ceasefire Talks in Egypt

At the same time, both sides' negotiating teams gathered in the Egyptian coastal city of the Egyptian city for a second day of mediated discussions to review the conditions of the plan.

A prominent Palestinian official knowledgeable about the negotiations revealed that an evening round of mediated discussions started at 19:00 Cairo time.

The source said the earlier meeting concluded without concrete outcomes, amid conflicting views over the recommended Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not resume hostilities after the opening period of the deal.

He added that the negotiations are "difficult and have not yet produce any major advancement," but pointed out that facilitators are making efforts to reduce the disparities between the two sides.

Key Matters in Discussions

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The exchange of the hostages still detained by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Arrangements for relief supplies provision
  • After-conflict governance of the region

Citizen Sentiment

In the city's memorial area previously, young a woman - whose brother endured the incident on the outdoor event, where 378 people were murdered and dozens more were abducted by Hamas militants - told: "Nowhere feels like home now and until all the hostages come back not a single person will have peace of mind."

"After we see all home once more, we can relax anew. Then we can begin to rebuild," she continued.

Near Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in the capital, people assembled to show their support for the loved ones of the hostages. Israel reports nearly fifty continue in confinement in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are believed to be alive.

Activist Atalia Regev explained: "We need do whatever arrangement needed for the captives to be released. But we truly desire promises that we will be secure."

Surveys now regularly indicate that about 70% of the population want the war to finish in exchange for the freedom of the captives.

Gaza Situation

At the site of Nova festival, mourners came together to pay their respects.

From the site, the noise of military attacks and shelling could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where witnesses indicated the severe Israeli attacks carried on.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were reported in the dawn of Tuesday in the west side Tal al-Hawa, area and Nasr areas and in the eastern district of the community, as well the camp to the northwestern area.

"As the dusk arrives, the fear arrives with it," evacuated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose young son was killed by an Israeli bombing previously, shared.

"Me and my three children are fearful of the bombings. During nighttime we are sleeping together, embracing, especially my little child who places his head on me the entire evening."

"Continuously we check the news to see developments. And I'm afraid that this halt will not be finalized and that the war will resume to us."

Humanitarian Situation

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area reported it had accepted the corpses of six people by the midday, including several who died in an Israeli strike in the south part area.

Another medical facility in the southern urban center of that area said two more dead people had been brought there. A person was died by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get help to the south, health workers reported.

The region's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
