The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
