This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people yelling “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: joyful, varied, and based in heritage that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
