Trump Calls Families of Shot National Guard Soldiers to the White House
President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has invited the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He noted that he contacted her family and they were âheartbrokenâ.
Background on the Heartbreaking Incident
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Gatherings across the state have been held in their memory.
White House Offer
The commander-in-chief said heâs talked about a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state Guard.
âI told them: âWhen youâre able, because thatâs a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. Weâre going to honor Sarah,â the president addressed the press. âAnd in the same way with him, no matter the outcome.â
Community Support
Attendees came together over the past few days at the high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of Trumpâs federal initiative to support public safety in DC.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
âShe was the kind of student that instructors desired. She carried herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that inspired people around her,â the principal, the leader of her alma mater, informed the Associated Press. âShe was caring, considerate and always eager to assist people.â
Funeral details for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Steps and Government Revisions
Officials have charged a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy prompted the Trump administration to halt asylum applications and halt issuing entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, according to the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is âfighting for his lifeâ, the stateâs governor Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channelâs The Sunday Briefing.
The stateâs top lawyer the attorney general informed a news show that she aimed to speak to his relatives.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a MP with excellence, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
âShe had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had fortitude,â Morrisey informed the gathering at the vigil. âThough her life was cut short, she has left a mark thatâs going to be remembered always.â
